Starlink is installed, but will Wi-Fi reach every room?

Your Starlink dish provides the satellite connection. The router then distributes that connection over Wi-Fi inside the property. These are different parts of the system: a good dish position and a successful installation test do not guarantee a strong wireless signal in every room.

Why some rooms have a weaker signal

Distance from the router, thick walls, floors, metalwork, appliances and the layout of the building can weaken Wi-Fi. A router near the cable entry point may work well in that part of a home but less well in an upstairs bedroom, extension, garden office or detached building. The number of devices and how they use the connection also affects the experience.

Start by checking the Starlink app for alerts or obstructions and testing near the router. If the connection is stable there but weaker farther away, indoor coverage deserves attention. If the app reports dish or cable problems, those need to be investigated first. A single speed test is only a snapshot; check the pattern at several times and locations before buying equipment.

Options for improving coverage

Router position can make a difference where the cable route and power location allow it. A properly planned mesh system can help distribute Wi-Fi across multiple rooms; wired access points may be suitable where a cable route is practical. An outbuilding may need its own designed connection rather than simply another wireless node. The right solution depends on the walls, layout, required coverage and existing hardware.

Satworks’ standard residential installation places the router by the nearest suitable fixed power supply to the agreed cable entry and sets up its basic Wi-Fi name and password. Configuring third-party mesh, switches, smart-home devices, point-of-sale systems or TVs is outside the standard visit. Extra Wi-Fi design and installation should be discussed and agreed separately.

What to tell the team

List the rooms and outdoor areas that matter, the number of floors, any especially thick walls, and the devices that need a reliable connection. A floor plan can help. This allows a useful conversation about coverage rather than an unsupported promise that one router will cover the whole property.
