Start with the job the connection must do

Tell the provider how many cabins and work areas need service, which applications matter, how many people will connect at busy times and whether access is temporary or needed for the full project. Include any business-critical systems or resilience requirements. This helps separate the satellite access link from the site’s internal network, guest Wi-Fi and device management.

Survey the location and installation constraints

The terminal needs a suitable view of the sky, secure mounting, power and a protected cable route. Cranes, temporary structures, rising buildings and site compounds may change the sky view as work progresses. A position that suits mobilisation may need reviewing later. Site safety rules, inductions, permits, access equipment and responsibility for the mounting structure should be agreed before an engineer attends.

Design for changing site layouts

The site office may move, more cabins may be added, or contractors may require separate access. Plan how the connection reaches each area and who can change the network. A single router at the terminal may not cover a large compound. Where service is critical, discuss monitoring, support and an appropriate secondary connection. Performance and resilience depend on the chosen service, equipment and local conditions; no single satellite link eliminates every outage risk.
