How to prepare for your Starlink installation

A little preparation helps the engineer assess your property and complete the work efficiently. You do not need to climb onto the roof or drill anything yourself. The most useful things to arrange are account access, permission for the work, a practical router position and clear information about unusual access.

Have your Starlink account and equipment ready

Make sure you can sign in to the Starlink account that will be used for the service. Have your kit available, along with any mount or accessories already ordered. The exact parts needed depend on the kit and the agreed location; tell Satworks what hardware you already have rather than buying an unfamiliar bracket in advance. Keep your phone available for the Starlink app and account verification.

Think about possible dish locations

The dish needs a clear view of the sky. If you can do so safely from ground level, use the Starlink app’s obstruction check at possible positions and note nearby trees, chimneys or adjacent buildings. A proposed roof position will still need the engineer’s on-site assessment. Do not access a roof or work at height to take photos.

Choose a useful router position

The standard router position is the nearest suitable fixed power supply to the agreed cable entry point. Think about where the dish cable can enter the building and where you need Wi-Fi most. A router beside the entry point may not cover a large property, thick walls, an outbuilding or every floor. If those areas matter, mention them before the appointment so a separate networking solution can be discussed.

Confirm permissions and access

If you rent, live in a flat, or need work on a shared wall, roof or external area, check what consent is required from the owner, freeholder or managing agent. Make sure someone authorised to agree the position and route is present. Tell the team about restricted parking, locked gates, fragile surfaces, unusual roof heights or access through a neighbour’s property. Apartment blocks and buildings of three storeys or more usually need additional assessment; some layouts cannot be installed as proposed.

On the day

Provide safe access to the planned work areas and a working power socket. Keep children and pets away from the work zone, and tell the engineer about any known hidden pipes or cables where a wall entry is proposed. The engineer will confirm the safe installation plan with you before fixing equipment or drilling. If the conditions differ from the booking information, they may offer an alternative position or arrange a separate quote.
